One who stopped to ponder each of the wonders of Venice, let alone try to discover the reasons for them, would need a lifetime just to cross one street. So, each of us, tries to choose something to focus on or, at least, one thing to focus on at a time! OG Venice Travel Guide likes to explore artisan shops, useful businesses and contemporary life in Venice, while stopping only occasionally to snap a photo of a winged lion.
Yesterday, I stumbled into a store - very bright and attractive - that could almost be called a one stop shop - something for which there is no category in OG Venice Travel Guide. El Papussa Calegher is, as the name suggests, a cobbler's shop where one can get one's shoes repaired. It is also a handmade leather goods shop, with products designed and made in-house. It is an eco-friendly shop with dozens of products made from recycled materials. And, because being only three things to all people is never enough, it's also a shoe store offering handmade furlane and sandals... Naturally, this shop that defies expectations and definitions, and sounds like an impossible collection of unrelated things, is nestled quite snuggly into Venice, the City entirely composed of impossible collections of seemly unrelated things. And, OG Venice really likes it!
Just one question: Where in the shopping section of OG Venice Travel Guide shall we place El Papussa Calegher?
